Accardi L., Freudenberg W., Obya M. (Eds.) Quantum Bio-informatics IV: From Quantum Information to Bio-informatics
World Scientific Publishing Company, 2011, 504 pages

The purpose of this proceedings volume is to retu to the starting point of bio-informatics and quantum information, fields that are growing rapidly at present, and to seriously attempt mutual interaction between the two, with a view to enumerating and solving the many fundamental problems they entail. For such a purpose, we look for interdisciplinary bridges in mathematics, physics, information and life sciences, in particular, research for new paradigm for information science and life science on the basis of quantum theory.

This volume is based on the fourth inteational conference of quantum bio-informatics held at the QBI Center of Tokyo University of Sciences. More than 100 researchers in various fields such as mathematics, physics, information and biology come from all over the world. In this fourth conference, particular attention is come up on quantum entanglement, simulation of bio-systems, brain function, quantum like dynamics and adaptive systems. Most of speakers gave care to the relation between their own topics and the mystery of life.

Laboratory Press, 2009. - 200 pages. Statistics at the Bench is a convenient bench-side companion for biologists, designed as a handy reference guide for elementary and intermediate statistical analyses. The expectations for biologists to have a more complete understanding of statistics are growing rapidly. New technologies and new areas of science, such as microarrays, next-generation sequencing, and proteomics, have dramatically increased the...

Springer, 2005. - 396 pages. Solving modern biological problems requires advanced computational methods. Bioinformatics evolved from the active interaction of two fast-developing disciplines, biology and information technology. The central issue of this emerging field is the transformation of often distributed and unstructured biological data into meaningful information. This book describes the application of well-established concepts and techn...

Neurophysiological, neuroanatomical, and brain imaging studies have helped to shed light on how the brain transforms raw sensory information into a form that is useful for goal-directed behavior. A fundamental question that is seldom addressed by these studies, however, is why the brain uses the types of representations it does and what evolutionary advantage, if any, these representations confer. It is difficu...
