Alexandrov A.S.,Theory of Superconductivity - From Weak to Strong Coupling
Taylor & Francis, 2003

Theory of Superconductivity: From Weak to Strong Coupling leads the reader from basic principles through detailed derivations and a description of the many interesting phenomena in conventional and high-temperature superconductors. The book describes physical properties of novel superconductors, in particular, the normal state, superconducting critical temperatures and critical fields, isotope effects, normal and superconducting gaps, tunneling, angle-resolved photoemission, stripes, and symmetries. The book divides naturally into two parts. Part I introduces the phenomenology of superconductivity, the microscopic BCS theory, and its extension to the intermediate coupling regime. The first three chapters of this part cover generally accepted themes in the conventional theory of superconductivity and serve as a good introduction to the subject. Chapter 4 describes what happens to the conventional theory when the coupling between electrons becomes strong. Part II describes key physical properties of high-temperature superconductors and their theoretical interpretation. Alteative viewpoints are discussed, but the emphasis is placed on the bipolaron theory.

Superconductivity--the flow of electric current without resistance in certain materials as temperatures near absolute zero--is one of the greatest discoveries of 20th century physics, but it can seem impenetrable to those who lack a solid scientific background. Outlining the fascinating history of how supercondu...

World Scientific Publishing Company, 2011, 575 pages The BCS theory of superconductivity developed in 1957 by Bardeen, Cooper and Schrieffer has been remarkably successful in explaining the properties of superconductors. In addition, concepts from BCS have been incorporated into diverse fields of physics, from nuclear physics and dense quark matter to the current standard model. Practical applications include SQUIDs, magnetic resonance imaging,...

2001. - 374 p. Flux quantization experiments indicate that the carriers, Cooper pairs (pairons), in the supercurrent have charge magnitude 2e, and that they move independently. Josephson interference in a Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) shows that the centers of masses (CM) of pairons move as bosons with a linear dispersion relation. Based on this evidence we develop a theory of superconductivity in conventional and high-Tc ma...

Springer, 2005 This is an advanced textbook for graduate students and researchers wishing to learn about high temperature superconductivity in copper oxides, in particular the Kamimura-Suwa (K-S) model. Because a number of models have been proposed since the discovery of high temperature superconductivity by Bednorz and M?ller in 1986, the book first explains briefly the historical development that led to the K-S model. It then focuses on the...

Springer, 2000, 144 pages Recent advances in semiconductor technology have made it possible to fabricate microcavity structures in which both photon fields and electron-hole pairs (or excitons) are confined in a small volume comparable to their wavelength. The radiative properties of the electron-hole pairs and excitons are modified owing to the drastic change in the structure of the electromagnetic-field modes. This book is the first to give a...
