Greiner W., Reinhardt J. Quantum Electrodynamics
Springer, 2002. - 475 Pages.

This completely revised and corrected new edition provides several new examples and exercises to enable deeper insight into the formalism and application of Quantum Electrodynamics.

Greiner and Reinhardt's thorough introductory text provides all necessary mathematical tools, together with many examples and worked problems. In their presentation of the subject, the authors adopt a heuristic approach based on the propagator formalism. The latter is introduced in the first two chapters in both its nonrelativistic and relativistic versions. Subsequently, a large number of scattering and radiation processes involving electrons, positrons, and photons are introduced and their theoretical treatment is presented in great detail. Higher order processes and renormalization are also included. The book concludes with a discussion of two-particle states and the interaction of spinless bosons.

Photons and Atoms: Introduction to Quantum Electrodynamics provides the necessary background to understand the various physical processes associated with photon-atom interactions. It starts with elementary quantum theory and classical electrodynamics and progresses to more advanced approaches. A critical comparison is made between these different, although equivale...

Springer, 2000. - 485 pages. Quantum Mechanics - An Introduction lays the foundations for the rest of the course on advanced quantum mechanics and field theory. Starting from black-body radiation, the photoelectric effect, and wave-particle duality, Greiner goes on to discuss the uncertainty relations, spin, and many-body systems; he includes applications to the hydrogen atom and the Stern-Gerlach and Einstein-de Haas experiments. The mathemati...

Springer, 2004. - 378 pages. Quantum Mechanics -- Special Chapters is an important additional course for third-year students. Starting with the quantization of a free electromagnetic field and its interaction with matter, it discusses second quantization and interacting quantum fields. After re-normalization problems and a general treatment of nonrelativistic quantum field theory, these methods are applied to problems from solid-state physics an...

Springer, 1994. - 496 pages. More than a generation of German-speaking students around the world have worked their way to an understanding and appreciation of the power and beauty of modern theoretical physics - with mathematics, the most fundamental of sciences - using Walter Greiner's textbooks as their guide. The idea of developing a coherent, complete presentation of an entire field of science in a series of closely related textbooks is not...

Springer, 1985. - 594 pages. The fundamental goal of physics is an understanding of the forces of nature in their simplest and most general terms. Yet there is much more involved than just a basic set of equations which eventually has to be solved when applied to specific problems. We have learned in recent years that the structure of the ground state of field theories (with which we are generally concerned) plays an equally fundamental role as...

Springer, 1996. - 460 pages. Field Quantization is a thorough introduction to the physical ideas and techniques of this subject, starting from an elementary level. The initial chapters deal with the quantum mechanics of systems having many degrees of freedom and with classical Lagrangian field theory. Subsequently, both the traditional method of canonical quantization and the modern approach using path integrals are studied. The material is pres...

Springer, 2007. - 553 Pages. The book is a self-contained introduction to perturbative and nonperturbative Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) with worked-out exercises for students of theoretical physics. It will be useful as a reference for research scientists as well. Starting with the hadron spectrum, the reader becomes familiar with the representations of SU(N). Relativistic quantum field theory is recapitulated, and scattering theory is discussed...

Oxforrd University Press, 1993, 785 p. The rise of quantum electrodynamics (QED) made possible a number of excellent textbooks on quantum field theory in the 1960s. However, the rise of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) and the Standard Model has made it urgent to have a fully modern textbook for the 1990s and beyond. Building on the foundation of QED, Quantum Field Theory: A Modern Introduction presents a clear and comprehensive discussion of the gau...

Cambridge University Press, 2004, 378 pages This book provides a self-contained and systematic introduction to classical electron theory and nonrelativistic quantum electrodynamics. The first half of the book covers the classical theory in much detail, which the second half explores quantum theory, leading to a coherent presentation of non-relativistic quantum electrodynamics. It covers the interaction between charges and the Maxwell field, wit...
