Hartshorne R. Deformation Theory
Sрringer, 2009. - 244 pages.

The basic problem of deformation theory in algebraic geometry involves watching a small deformation of one member of a family of objects, such as varieties, or subschemes in a fixed space, or vector bundles on a fixed scheme. In this new book, Robin Hartshoe studies first what happens over small infinitesimal deformations, and then gradually builds up to more global situations, using methods pioneered by Kodaira and Spencer in the complex analytic case, and adapted and expanded in algebraic geometry by Grothendieck. The author includes numerous exercises, as well as important examples illustrating various aspects of the theory. This text is based on a graduate course taught by the author at the University of Califoia, Berkeley.

World Scientific Publishing Company, 2010. - 220 pages. Quantum theory is one of the most important intellectual developments in the early twentieth century. The confluence of mathematics and quantum physics emerged arguably from Von Neumann's seminal work on the spectral theory of linear operators. This volume arose from a two-month workshop held at the Institute for Mathematical Sciences at the National University of Singapore in July Septembe...

Springer, 1997. - 509 pages. In this text, the author constructs the mathematical apparatus of classical mechanics from the beginning, examining all the basic problems in dynamics, including the theory of oscillations, the theory of rigid body motion, and the Hamiltonian formalism. This modern approch, based on the theory of the geometry of manifolds, distinguishes iteself from the traditional approach of standard textbooks. Geometrical consider...

This book is centered around higher algebraic structures stemming from the work of Murray Gerstenhaber and Jim Stasheff that are now ubiquitous in various areas of mathematics— such as algebra, algebraic topology, differential geometry, algebraic geometry, mathematical physics— and in theoretical physics such as quantum field theory and string theory. These higher algebraic structures provide a common language esse...

Birkh?user, 2011. - 244 pages. An Introduction to Tensors and Group Theory for Physicists provides both an intuitive and rigorous approach to tensors and groups and their role in theoretical physics and applied mathematics. A particular aim is to demystify tensors and provide a unified framework for understanding them in the context of classical and quantum physics. Connecting the component formalism prevalent in physics calculations with the a...

Springer, 1992. - 690 Pages. Various developments in physics have involved many questions related to number theory, in an increasingly direct way. This trend is especially visible in two broad families of problems, namely, field theories, and dynamical systems and chaos. The 14 chapters of this book are extended, self-contained versions of expository lecture courses given at a school on "Number Theory and Physics" held at Les Houches for mathema...
