Reed M., Simon B. Methods of Modern Mathematical Physics. Volume 2: Fourier Analysis, Self-Adjointness
Academic Press, 1975. - 361 pages.

This volume will serve several purposes: to provide an introduction for graduate students not previously acquainted with the material, to serve as a reference for mathematical physicists already working in the field, and to provide an introduction to various advanced topics which are difficult to understand in the literature. Not all the techniques and application are treated in the same depth. In general, we give a very thorough discussion of the mathematical techniques and applications in quatum mechanics, but provide only an introduction to the problems arising in quantum field theory, classical mechanics, and partial differential equations. Finally, some of the material developed in this volume will not find applications until Volume III. For all these reasons, this volume contains a great variety of subject matter. To help the reader select which material is important for him, we have provided a "Reader's Guide" at the end of each chapter.

Wiley, 1966. – 811 pages. The present volume is concerned with the theory of partial differential equations, in particular with parts of this wide field that are related to concepts of physics and mechanics. Even with this restriction, completeness seems unattainable; to a certain extent the material selected corresponds to my personal experience and taste. The intention is to make an important branch of mathematical analysis more accessible by e...

Academic Press, 2006. - 3246 Pages. This 5-volume encyclopedia contains a very comprehensive collection of articles covering the entire range of mathematical and theoretical physics. The authors of the articles include recognized leaders in their fields, and the essays themselves, each several pages in extent, are more like survey articles than "telegraphic" reviews. To give a sense of the contents, there is a more or less continuous spectrum f...

Springer, 2010. - 436 pages. Methods of global analysis and stochastic analysis are most often applied in mathematical physics as separate entities, thus forming important directions in the field. However, while combination of the two subject areas is rare, it is fundamental for the consideration of a broader class of problems This book develops methods of Global Analysis and Stochastic Analysis such that their combination allows one to have a...

Academic Press, 1980. - 400 pages. This book is the first of a multi-volume series devoted to an exposition of functional analysis methods in modern mathematical physics. It describes the fundamental principles of functional analysis and is essentially self-contained, although there are occasional references to later volumes. We have included a few applications when we thought that they would provide motivation for the reader. Later volumes des...

Academic Press, 1979. - 463 pages. Scattering theory is the study of an interacting system on a scale of time and/or distance which is large compared to the scale of the interaction itself. As such, it is the most effective means, sometimes the only means, to study microscopic nature. To understand the importance of scattering theory, consider the variety of ways in which it arises. First, there are various phenomena in nature (like the blue of...

This edition provides a comprehensive tour of the mathematical knowledge and techniques that are needed by students in this area. In contrast to more traditional textbooks, all the material is presented in the form of problems. Within these problems the basic mathematical theory and its physical applications are well integrated. The mathemati...

PIMANDER-CASAUBON, 2002. - 315 pages. These notes were prepared for PHYCS-498MMA, a fairly traditional onesemester mathematical methods course for begining graduate students in physics. The emphasis is on linear operators and stresses the analogy between such operators acting on function spaces and matrices acting on finite dimensional spaces. The operator language then provides a unified framework for investigating ordinary differential equatio...

An engagingly-written account of mathematical tools and ideas, this book provides a graduate-level introduction to the mathematics used in research in physics. The first half of the book focuses on the traditional mathematical methods of physics - differential and integral equations, Fourier series and the calculus of variations. The second half contains an introduction to more advanced subjects, in...
