This report presents an accumulation of data conceing the fatigue of austenitic stainless steels in the low and intermediate cycle range (10 to 10). asuch as asignificant percentage of the failures which occur high temperature equipment utilizing stainless steels result from the presence of cyclic stresses . More of ten than not there are other factors such as material defects , corrosion, geometric discontinuities , etc . , which amplify the effect but before we can hope to understand what allowances should be made for such factors we must gain some idea of the basic resistance of these materials t ocyclic stresses at elevated temperatures.

1999. , 752 pages From Introduction: What is fracture? The simplest answer would be: "the process of breaking" or "the condition of being broken". Actually, both fracture and break can be traced to the same Indo-European root, bhreg (to break). Each term can be either a noun or a verb. Common-day use of the word "fracture" is not well-defined. It may refer to something that is being (or has been) broken apart, or it may indicate the presence...

Woodhead Publishing Limited, 2009. - 562 pages Weld cracks are unacceptable defects that can compromise the integrity of welded structures. Most cracks are the result of solidification, cooling and stresses that develop due to weld shrinkage. Weld cracking can lead to structural failures which at best will require remedial action and at worst can lead to loss of life. All industries that utilize welding can be affected, including nuclear, aerospa...
