Bartschat B. (Ed.) Computational Atomic Physics. Electron and Positron Collisions with Atoms and Ions
Springer, Berlin Heidelberg New York, 1996, 267 pp.
Reliable collision data are needed, for example, as input for programs to simulate energy transport in plasmas or the calculation of stellar opacities.
The reason for the problems in the numerical simulation of the collision dynamics lies in the quantum-mechanical nature of this so-called "three-body Coulomb problem", in which three particles, two electrons and a proton, interact with each other through the long-range Coulomb force. A reliable calculation of the ionization process, in particular, tus out to be very difficult.

IOP Publishing Ltd, London, 1997, 259 pp. - ISBN 0 7503 0229 1 This book describes numerical methods for the investigation of atomic electron shell structure and the interaction between atomic electrons and various scattered particles, such as electrons, positrons, photons and muons. There are two reasons why these problems are of interest to scientists. First, an atom is the basic element of various natural systems ranging from enormous, distant...

The first part provides an overview of the state of the art of computational solid state physics. Emphasis is given on the understanding of approximations and their consequences regarding the accuracy of the results. This part of the book also deals as a guide to find the best method for a give...

John Wiley & Sons, New York, London, 1977, 318 pp. - ISBN 0-471-25990-X In 1957 Douglas R. Hartree published his book The Calculation of Atomic Structures, in which he derived the Hartree-Fock equations and described numerical procedures for their solution. The book reflected the state of the art at that time. The emphasis was on single-configuration approximations, configurations with at most one open shell, and Z-dependent theory was introd...

IOP Publishing Ltd, London, 1997, 291 pp. The last decade has seen tremendous advancements in computer technology, not only in computational speed but also in memory and storage resources. Calculations which twenty years ago could only be done on a main-frame computer, can now be performed easily on many personal computers. This book, Computational Atomic Structure, was written partly in response to this change. Our book differs from other books...

Princeton University Press, Princeton and Oxford, 2008, 698 pp. In the decade since two of us wrote the book Computational Physics, we have seen a good number of computational physics texts and courses come into existence. This is good. Multiple texts help define a still-developing field and provide a choice of viewpoints and focus. After perusing the existing texts, we decided that the most worthwhile contribution we could make was to extend our...
