Blanchard Ph., Combe Ph., Zheng W. Mathematical and Physical Aspects of Stochastic Mechanics
Sрringer, 1987, 171 pages

This lecture is meant as an introduction to stochastic mechanics for graduate students. The concepts and most of the statements are formulated in precise and exact mathematical language. Nevertheless, the emphasis is on the physical concepts. The authors discuss thoroughly the aspects of stochastic mechanics in quantum mechanics, firstly as a way of quantization as proposed by E. Nelson and secondly, as a tool to give a more detailed description of microphysics within the framework of the standard form of quantum theory. Another part of their work treats stochastic mechanics as a general description of a class of dynamical systems disturbed by some isotropic translation invariant noise thus extending Nelson's theory within the framework of classical physics. The necessary tools like stochastic processes, in particular those used in mathematical physics, existence and construction of diffusion processes as well as stochastic variational principles are presented in detail. Here is certainly an excellent text on this important field of mathematical physics.

Sрringer, 2001, 274 pages Nonextensive statistical mechanics is now a rapidly growing field and a new stream in the research of the foundations of statistical mechanics. This generalization of the well-known Boltzmann-Gibbs theory enables the study of systems with long-range interactions, long-term memories or multi-fractal structures. This book consists of a set of self-contained lectures and includes additional contributions where some of th...

The Johns Hopkins University Press, 2002. - 124 pages. Professor Lemons's book has reclaimed the field of stochastic processes for physics. For too long it has been taught as a highly mathematical subject devoid of its roots in the physical sciences. Professor Lemons's book shows how the subject grew historically from early fundamental problems in physics, and how the greater minds, like Einstein, used its methods to solve problems that are stil...

Academic Press, 1995, 220 Pages Far-from-equilibrium phenomena, while abundant in nature, are not nearly as well understood as their equilibrium counterparts. On the theoretical side, progress is slowed by the lack of a simple framework, such as the Boltzmann-Gbbs paradigm in the case of equilibrium thermodynamics. On the experimental side, the enormous structural complexity of real systems poses serious obstacles to comprehension. Similar dif...
