Preface to the second edition. The first edition of the Inteational Dictionary of the Leather and Allied Trades, published in 1936, was completely sold out within a couple of years or so, clearly proving that the Dictionary was a necessity and appreciated by those in the leather industry. Had it not been for the war a new edition would have been issued years ago. The present edition is the first publication of the Inteational Council of Tanners after the war, and contains a series of additions, improvements and simplifications. On this occasion a Russian translation has been added to the edition of the book printed for circulation in Germany. It has not been possible to have all the additions verified by experts in the different countries as was the case in the first edition. Experts in the different languages in Germany have been consulted, however, and we hope that errors have been avoided.
The Russian version presented particular difficulties, and for some special terms no translations could be obtained. If any reader can help in connection with missing Russian words the Editor will be grateful for information. Предисловие ко второму изданию. Вышедшее в 1936 г. первое издание международного кожевенно-технического словаря было уже через несколько лет совершенно распродано, что лучше всего доказало необходимость в подобном труде, и что было признано в кругах специалистов. Сделавшееся уже давно необходимым новое издание было задержано только войной. Предлагаемое издание является первым послевоенным трудом Международного Союза Кожевников и содержит ряд дополнений, поправок и упрощений. К назначенному для Германии изданию одновременно прибавлена русская часть. Исследование всех добавлений при помощи специалистов различных стран, как это было сделано в первом издании, оказалось невозможным. Однако мы обращались к знающим соответствующие языки специалистам в Германии и надеемся, что нам удалось избежать ошибок. Особенно трудным оказалось русское издание, в котором некоторые специальные выражения не могли быть переведены. Если бы пользующемуся словарем недостающие русские слова оказались известными, мы были бы благодарны за соответствующие сообщения.
