Lieb E.H., Thirring W.E. (Eds.) The Stability of Matter: From Atoms to Stars
Springer Verlag Berlin; 4th edition, 2005, 932 pages

This collection of papers gives an excellent current review of our knowledge of matter. Partially basing his work on a variational formulation of quantum mechanics, E.H. Lieb links the difficult question of the stability of matter with important problems in functional analysis. In this collection the reader will find general results together with deep insights into quantum systems combined with papers on the structure of atoms and molecules, the thermo dynamic limit, and stellar structures. The book is suitable as an accompanying text for a graduate course in quantum mechanics. In the third edition two new sections have been added: Section 7 contains papers on quantum electrodynamics, and Section 8 on Boson systems. In this fourth edition these topics have been further developed.

Cambridge University Press, 2010, 698 p. Aimed at students and researchers entering the field, this pedagogical introduction to numerical relativity will also interest scientists seeking a broad survey of its challenges and achievements. Assuming only a basic knowledge of classical general relativity, this textbook develops the mathematical formalism from first principles, then highlights some of the pioneering simulations involving black holes a...

World Scientific Publishing, 2011, 347 pages This concise textbook introduces a graduate student to the various fields of physics related to the interaction between radiation and matter. The scope of the book is very broad, ranging from nonlinear to quantum optics and from quantum transitions in atoms to the dispersion of polaritons in continuous media. Most parts of the book contain the lecture courses taught by David Klyshko at Moscow Stat...

Photons and Atoms: Introduction to Quantum Electrodynamics provides the necessary background to understand the various physical processes associated with photon-atom interactions. It starts with elementary quantum theory and classical electrodynamics and progresses to more advanced approaches. A critical comparison is made between these different, although equivale...

Springer, 2004. - 378 pages. Quantum Mechanics -- Special Chapters is an important additional course for third-year students. Starting with the quantization of a free electromagnetic field and its interaction with matter, it discusses second quantization and interacting quantum fields. After re-normalization problems and a general treatment of nonrelativistic quantum field theory, these methods are applied to problems from solid-state physics an...

Cambridge University Press, 5 ed., 2011, 287 pages Questions of the fundamental nature of matter continue to inspire and engage our imagination. However, the exciting new concepts of strings, supersymmetry and exotic matter build on ideas that are well known to physicists but mysterious and puzzling to people outside of these research fields. Covering key conceptual developments from the last century, this book provides a background to the bo...

D. Reidel Publishing Company, 1982, 259 p. "General Relativity and Matter" represents a bold attempt by its author to formulate, in as transparent and complete a way as possible, a fundamental theory of matter rooted in the theory of relativity - where the latter is viewed as providing an explanatory level of understanding for probing the fundamental nature of matter in domains ranging all the way from fermis and less to light years and more. We...

Springer, 2003, 191 p. My research program, as it has developed over the past 40 years in the literature, started with the attempt to answer the following question: is it possible that the formal structure of quantum mechanics is not more than a linear approximation for a theory of matter that is based on the foundations of Einstein's theory of general relativity, as a general theory of matter? For if this were the case it would signify a genuine...

D. Reidel Publishing Company, 1986, 241 p. This monograph is a sequel to my earlier work, General Relativity and Matter, which will be referred to henceforth as GRM. The monograph, GRM, focuses on the full set of implications of General Relativity Theory, as a fundamental theory of matter in all domains, from elementary particle physics to cosmology. It is shown there to exhibit an explicit unification of the gravitation and electromagnetic field...
