O'Bryon James F. Determination of muzzle velocity changes due to nonstandard propellant temperature using an interior ballistic computer simulation
(O'Брайн Джеймс Ф. Определение изменений дульной скорости из-за отклонений температуры пороха от стандартной с использованием внутрибаллистического моделирования).
Report. - Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland: Ballistic Research Laboratories. 1972. – 109 р.
An interior ballistic computer model is used to study means of simulating the effects of firing weapons using propellants which are not conditioned to 70 degrees F. Functions of buing rate coefficient and propellant force are empirically determined and arc used to simulate these effects on muzzle velocity for a wide variety of weapon systems in the current inventory. The simulated velocity changes are compared with data gathered from firings conducted at several discrete propellant temperatures. In the majority of cases, the precision in predicting the changes in muzzle velocity at any given temperature falls within the round-to-round velocity probable error at that same temperature. This method should prove to be sufficiently accurate to permit a significant reduction in the number of rounds fired to determine propellant temperature effects on velocity.
