Snell D.C. Workbook of Cuneiform Signs
Undena Pubns, 1979. - 147 p.

Snell's cuneiform workbook gives a similar course of programmed instruction that teaches the 110 most frequently used cuneiform signs. It teaches the standard Neo-Assyrian sign forms, and a method encouraging active use of the signs is presented on the grounds that an active knowledge of the signs will stay with the student longer.

The signs are divided into eight sections. Each section contains step-by-step exercises and ends with a quiz reviewing all the signs presented. Two appendices provide an alphabetic list of values taught and a list of the signs.

The 'Workbook' is designed for home study by students in beginning Akkadian classes and provides a practical and systematic introduction to the cuneiform writing system. It should be used in conjunction with R. Labat's 'Manuel d'Epigraphie akkadienne'.

Edzard D.O. Sumerian grammar. – Boston_Leiden: Brill, 2003. - 212 p. ISBN 90-04-12608-2 Dietz Edzard's Sumerian Grammar is not a book for an absolute beginner. You will not learn to translate a Sumerian text from this book. There are no vocabulary lists or exercises and there are only two cuneiform characters in the entire book. But that is fine since this book is not aimed at a begining student. Instead, Dr. Edzard has written a book that is...

Paris: Geuthner, 1995. - 379 p. As its name suggests, Labat's Manuel d'epigraphie akkadienne ("Manual of Akkadian Epigraphy") is designed for readers of Akkadian, rather than other languages written in cuneiform script. Its advantages over Borger's Zeichenlexikon are that it presents all of its information on a sign in a single place, and that it systematically shows the evolution of sign-forms from the late fourth millennium onwards. This is a...

2008 г. - 113 p. The outline of grammar presented here is inspired from the Hethitisches Elementarbuch by Johannes Friedrich. However, it is not an exact translation of this book. I have nevertheless used his examples, his tables of the different paradigms and his numbering of the classes of verbs (referenced in the lexicon). I have deviated from the usual rules of transcription of Hittite by replacing the sign ? by the letter 's', according to...

Worthington M. Complete Babylonian. - TY, 2010. - 377 p. Good recent work on Babylonian, which as I am sure all of you know is a late form of Akkadian, especially used since 2000 BC, eg for Hammurabi's code and all the way into the Biblical period. This book features Latin script only (with a lesson or two on cuneiform), very morphology-focused, not enough comparisons with Arabic, Hebrew or Aramaic, but it is friendly and worth while. I'm very...
