Sutherland B. Beautiful Models. 70 Years of Exactly Solved Quantum Many-body Problems
(WSP, 2004)(T) This book is conceived as an advanced textbook - suitable for graduate students, interested non-experts, and even ambitious undergraduates - to provide a broad introduction to the subject of exactly solved quantum many-body systems. These systems are necessarily one-dimensional, but should that change in the future, I will happily include higher-dimensional examples in a new edition of this book! As the subtitle indicates, the topic began more than 70 years ago - soon after the invention of quantum mechanics - and has been steadily growing since. My only ambition for the book is to provide a largely self-contained presentation - as broad and coherent as feasible - that will interest the interested reader, and provide the background necessary should that wish to go further and enter the vast and intimidating research literature. Oh yes, and with a minimum of mistakes.

Springer, 2000. - 485 pages. Quantum Mechanics - An Introduction lays the foundations for the rest of the course on advanced quantum mechanics and field theory. Starting from black-body radiation, the photoelectric effect, and wave-particle duality, Greiner goes on to discuss the uncertainty relations, spin, and many-body systems; he includes applications to the hydrogen atom and the Stern-Gerlach and Einstein-de Haas experiments. The mathemati...

Springer, 2004. - 378 pages. Quantum Mechanics -- Special Chapters is an important additional course for third-year students. Starting with the quantization of a free electromagnetic field and its interaction with matter, it discusses second quantization and interacting quantum fields. After re-normalization problems and a general treatment of nonrelativistic quantum field theory, these methods are applied to problems from solid-state physics an...

Springer, 1985. - 594 pages. The fundamental goal of physics is an understanding of the forces of nature in their simplest and most general terms. Yet there is much more involved than just a basic set of equations which eventually has to be solved when applied to specific problems. We have learned in recent years that the structure of the ground state of field theories (with which we are generally concerned) plays an equally fundamental role as...

CRC Press, 2000. - 435 pp. This text explains the features of quantum and statistical field systems that result from their field-theoretic nature and are common to different physical contexts. It supplies the practical tools for carrying out calculations and discusses the meaning of the results. The central concept is that of effective action (or free energy), and the main technical tool is the path integral, although other formalisms are also m...

Second Edition, Narosa, 2005, 380 pages In the last few decades of the twentieth century, it has become clear that the weak and the strong electromagnetic interactions involved in quantum field theory are well described by interacting quantum fields. Although it is quite possible that, at even smaller length scales, some other kind of theory may be operative, it is clear today that quantum fields provide the appropriate framework to describe a...
