ПРЕДИСЛОВИЕ

Настоящее пособие «Сборник текстов для студентов заочной формы

обучения по английскому языку» предназначено для студентов ВГНА заочной

формы обучения и является необходимым дополнением к учебному пособию

по программе «Иностранный язык (английский)» академии.

Чтение – это самостоятельный вид речевой деятельности, который

обеспечивает письменную форму общения. Оно занимает одно из главных мест

по использованию, важности и доступности, и относится к рецептивным видам

речевой деятельности, поскольку оно связано с восприятием и пониманием

информации.

Чтение тесно связано с другими видами речевой деятельности и как

средство изучения языка используется для лучшего овладения лексикой,

грамматическим аспектом английского языка и способствует формированию

умений в говорении, в его монологической и диалогической формах, а также

письма.

В связи с этим, цели и задачи данного пособия:

1) развитие умений, формирующих чтение как деятельность по извлечению

содержательно-смысловой информации из текста (умение предвосхищать и

анализировать содержание текста за счет прочтения заголовка или первых

предложений; умение вычленять главное при чтении; умение интерпретировать

текст);

2) обучение приемам по овладению чтением на английском языке (умение

читать по ключевым словам, умение пользоваться транскрипцией, умение

пользоваться словарем, умение осуществлять языковую и контекстуальную

догадку);

3) расширение словарного запаса студентов за счет овладения ими новой

терминологией; широко используемой в сфере бизнеса;

4) ознакомление студентов с разнообразными видами деловой деятельности;

5) развитие навыков перевода с английского языка на русский;

Пособие состоит из 30 текстов с послетекстовыми заданиями,

направленными на контроль правильности понимания прочитанного.

Например, ответить на вопросы; найти в тексте; прочитать предложения и

распределить их в порядке следования событий; определить верно ли

утверждение; выбрать правильный вариант ответа; закончить предложение,

сопоставит слово и его значение и другие упражнения.

Пособие может быть использовано студентами других форм обучения,

как для развития навыков чтения, так и для подготовки к сдачи зачетов или

экзаменов.

РЕКОМЕНДАЦИИ ДЛЯ СТУДЕНТОВ

Перед тем, как приступить к работе с текстами, внимательно прочитайте

вступительную часть и данные рекомендации. Это поможет Вам грамотно

выполнить задания, направленные на контроль:

а) понимания общего содержания;

б) полное понимание содержания;

Работу необходимо вести в определённой последовательности.

Инструкция предлагает следующие этапы работы с предложенными в пособии

текстами и упражнениями.

1. Внимательно прочитайте задание к тексту. В задании может содержаться

необходимая для Вас информация.

2. Прочитайте название текста и первые 2-3 предложения. Постарайтесь

догадаться о содержании текста.

3. Прочитайте снова весь текст до конца. Не обращайте внимание на

встречающиеся незнакомые слова. Попытайтесь догадаться об их значении из

контекста.

4. Прочитайте снова весь тест более внимательно. Найдите значение слов,

мешающих пониманию содержания в словаре.

5. Приступайте к выполнению послетекстовых заданий. Все задания

необходимо выполнять письменно, давая полные ответы на все поставленные

вопросы. В упражнениях типа «Сопоставьте ...» Вам необходимо записать,

например, слово и напротив его значение. В заданиях, где требуется

определить, верно ли утверждение, Вам необходимо дать сначала краткий

ответ, а затем полный, соответствующий содержанию текста. В упражнениях

типа «Выбери правильный ответ» Вы должны записать только предложение с

правильным ответом. Не допускается в данных заданиях употребление буквы и

номера, так как одно из Ваших задач является развитие навыков письма.

6. После выполнения упражнений приступайте к выполнению третьего

задания. Оно направлено на контроль полного понимания содержания текста,

развитие умения работы со словарём и навыков письменного перевода с

английского на русский язык.

Следуйте следующим рекомендациям:

а) Читайте текст, выписывая все незнакомые слова и фразы.

б) Найдите значения слов в словаре. Не забывайте выписывать транскрипцию.

Это поможет Вам правильно произносить слово как при чтении вслух, так и про себя.

в) Приступайте к письменному переводу текста. Перед тем как записать

предложение произнесите его вслух, проверяя, как эта мысль будет звучать на

русском языке. Помните, что Вы должны передать смысл предложения и во

многих случаях нельзя перевести слово в слово!

г) Прочитайте перевод всего текста и исправьте погрешности.

COMPANY STRUCTURE

‘My name's Bernard Levesque and I'm the Technical and Quality Manager at

MTS in Paris and work within the MTD - the Materials Testing Division, which

makes equipment used by industrial firms to test the strength and durability of

materials like plastics, metals and so forth. We're a subsidiary of MTS Systems

Corporation, an American firm based in Minneapolis. MTS employs roughly 2,200

people worldwide and is a leading supplier of mechanical testing and simulation

equipment. Our major development and manufacturing operations are located in the

US, France and Germany, and we have sales and service offices around the world.

Before I describe the organisation of my department, I'll outline the structure

from the top, starting with Werner Ongyert, our CEO, who oversees all aspects of our

activities here. Just below him is the General Manager, Jacques Mordelet, who is my

immediate superior.Then there's Sylviane Villaret, the Human Resources Director,

and Genevieve Cornetti, the GM's Secretary, who also report directly to him. We

have a management team that includes myself, Dominique Faurieux, the Sales

Manager, Jean-Francois Reinauld, the Finance Manager, and of course, Jacques

Mordelet, who is also the Marketing Manager. There are also two new departments -

Customer Service and NVD, the Noise and Vibration Division - headed by Louis

Regnier and Patrick Dhommee respectively.

Now, getting back to the way my department is organised, I'm responsible for

operations, so I'm in charge of Purchasing and Planning, R&D and Quality. The

Purchasing and Planning Department schedules production based on orders provided

by the sales team and forecasts from the Marketing Department. In R&.D, there are

three sub-departments - Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, and Software

Engineering - which are involved in developing new products and modifying existing

products to meet customer demands. They receive technical specifications from the

Marketing Department and provide drawings, a parts list and assembly instructions.

Nathalie Launay works closely with me on Quality - an area that takes up nearly a

third of my time. And finally there's the head of Shipping, as well as the person in

charge of Assembly, who also report to me.’

SBS stands for Siemens Business Services. It is a division of the famous German

company Siemens. It is only about five years old but is already responsible for a

considerable part of Siemens’ turnover. How? Siemens had the idea in 1995. A whole

department of Siemens was at the time responsible for the information and

communication activities of Siemens. The idea was to offer this service not only

inside the company but outside too. SBS is now one of the world’s leading providers

in the area of electronic business solutions and services. Friedrich Froeschl is the CEO

MANNESMANN AG

Mannesmann AG has its headquarters in Düsseldorf and employs

116,247 people worldwide. In 1998, the company’s total sales reached DM

37.3 billion (EUR 19 billion). Of the four core business sectors, Engineering

accounted for 35% of its turnover, while Automotive and Telecommunications

contributed 29% and 24% respectively, with the remaining 12% coming from Tubes.

Max and Reinhard Mannesmann founded the steel tube business in Berlin in 1890

and three years later the headquarters moved to Düsseldorf. Over the next 60 years, it

acquired other companies connected with steel tube manufacturing and between

1952 and 1955 it established steel and tube mills in Brazil, Canada and Turkey.

During the 1980s the company diversified into new sectors. In 1987, the firm

entered the field of automotive technology with the acquisition of Fichtel & Sachs

AG. Mannesmann Mobilfunk GmbH, a cellular phone1 company, was set up two

years later. Then in 1990, Mannesmann became the first company to develop a

private communications network in Germany. Dr Klaus Esser became Chairman

in 1999.

The group has undergone major structural changes since the eighties. Overall

expansion has shifted from heavy industry to a strong presence in high technology.

Activities in the automotive sector have increased dramatically and

telecommunications h as become a major business sector.
