The Subjunctive and Tense in Russian May 26, 2006 Abstract This paper discusses the interaction between subjunctive and tense in Russian. It makes a proposal explaining why Russian subjunctive occurs only with past tense or in?nitive verbs. The meaning of subjunctive conditionals is compositionally derived. Subjunctive verbal complements and bare subjunctives are also discussed.
