The central approach in preparing this book has not been to write an all inclusive work where all formulas are derived and all the small nuances known to specialists are included. The purpose has not been to write a reference book, but to write a book that explains some of the basic physics and illustrates what happens in the atmosphere. The approach is to provide a generous amount of material on the atmosphere and on the physical principles involved. The mathematical derivations are usually abbreviated because it is the results that are of interest, not the derivation. However, enough derivation is usually given to point the way and to give a feel for the approximations and assumptions involved. The object has not been to avoid mathematics, but to avoid losing the reader in a sea of mathematics. In some cases, such as the treatment of turbulence, there is no way to avoid extensive mathematics.

Springer Science, 2008, 388 pp. - ISBN: 978-1-4020-8530-7 Atmospheric ice takes a wide range of forms, usually quite beautiful and harmless. But it may, on occasion, pose severe risks to the security of many types of man-made structures, including power networks and transportation systems. As ice or sticky snow accumulates on network equipment and structures, it adds weight which, if combined with wind, can upset the precarious balance of these s...

Academic Press, 2011. - 704 pages. 3rd Edition Fundamentally, statistics is concerned with managing data and making inferences and forecasts in the face of uncertainty. It should not be surprising, therefore, that statistical methods have a key role to play in the atmospheric sciences. It is the uncertainty in atmospheric behavior that continues to move research forward and drive innovations in atmospheric modeling and prediction. This revise...
