Peiponen K.-E., Vartiainen E.M., Asakura T. Dispersion, Complex Analysis and Optical Spectroscopy: Classical Theory
Springer-Verlag Berlin, 1998, 130 pages

This book is devoted to dispersion theory in linear and nonlinear optics. Dispersion relations and methods of analysis in optical spectroscopy are derived with the aid of complex analysis. The book introduces the mathematical basis and derivations of various dispersion relations that are used in optical spectroscopy. In addition, it presents the dispersion theory of the nonlinear optical processes which are essential in mode optical spectroscopy. The book includes new methods such as the maximum entropy model for wavelength-dependent spectra analysis.

Second Edition, 2004 by Marcel Dekker, Inc. 522 pp. Without pretending to be encyclopedic, this book tries to cover most of the classical aspects of lens design and at the same time describes some of the modern methods, tools, and instruments, such as contemporary astronomical telescopes, gaussian beams, and computer lens design. Chapter 1 introduces the reader to the fundamentals of geometrical optics. In Chapter 2 spherical and aspherical optic...

Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 2007, 319 pages This book introduces the basic theoretical concepts required for the analysis of the optical response of semiconductor systems in the coherent regime. It is the most instructive textbook on the theory and optical effects of semiconductors. The entire presentation is based on a one-dimensional tight-binding model. Starting with discrete-level systems, increasing complexity is added gradually to the model b...

Springer, 2005. - 2nd edition. - 253 pp. This is the first comprehensive textbook on the optical properties of photonic crystals. It deals not only with the properties of the radiation modes inside the crystals but also with their peculiar optical response to external fields. A general theory of linear and nonlinear optical response is developed in a clear and detailed fashion using the Green's function method. The symmetry of the eigenmodes is t...
