Sherman K. and Hempel G. Large Marine Ecosystems
Preparation of this initial report on the ecological conditions of the LMEs in the Regional Seas has been a collaborative effort. The GEF had tasked the Global Inteational Waters Assessment (GIWA) to identify the ecological conditions of the GEF-eligible LMEs, thereby allowing, on the basis of these assessments, the GEF to prioritize the activities or areas needing more financial, scientific and technical support. The reports on the ecological condition for 34 LMEs, for which bordering countries are eligible for GEF financial support, were prepared by Dr. Sherry Heileman, marine and fisheries biologist, Paris, France. Report/ 2009 y/ pages 872/ fig.

Wiley - Blackwell Publishing Ltd, 2010, 314 pages Climate change is occurring and there is little doubt now that human activity is the principal cause. However, the full extent of the impact of climate change on freshwater ecosystems is difficult to detect as other pressures on our freshwaters, such as pollution and land-use change, are still more important. But as temperatures continue to rise and pollution pressures are reduced, climate chang...

Cambridge University Press, 2004, ISBN: 0521819431, 442 pages This book presents a quantitative understanding of the impacts of soil moisture on ecosystem dynamics using a probabilistic framework. It investigates the vegetation response to water stress (drought), the hydrologic control of cycles of soil nutrients, and the dynamics of plant competition for water. The book also offers insights into processes closely related to soil moisture dynam...

Рассматриваются причины и последствия антропогенной соленизации пресноводных озер, рек и потоков. Many inland waters are becomingmore saline fromhuman activities, particularly in semi-arid and arid regions. The causes and distribution of anthropogenic salinisation, the salinisation of freshwater lakes, rivers and streams, and increases in the salinity of large, permanent saline lakes are discussed. The impacts of anthropogenic salinisation are fa...

Elsevier Oceanography Series, Elsevier Science, 2001, Pages: 360 Carbon dioxide is the most important greenhouse gas after water vapor in the atmosphere of the earth. More than 98% of the carbon of the atmosphere-ocean system is stored in the oceans as dissolved inorganic carbon. The key for understanding critical processes of the marine carbon cycle is a sound knowledge of the seawater carbonate chemistry, including equilibrium and nonequilibri...
