The gold cover, chased entirely with lozenge-shaped
and heart-Hke floral medallions and a crescent design,
presents a full-length image of St. Nicholas. The mitre
with a raised pearl-decorated band on the forehead is
set with a five-lobed plaque nielloed with the Trinity.
The halo and mitre are decorated with a chased foUate
pattern and large gemstones in raised settings against
pounced surface. The contours of the icon cover, halo
and mitre are emphasized by a series of pearls. Super-
posed on either side of the personage's head are two
figured rectangular panels with nielloed inscriptions;
two circular plaques mounted in pearl circlets and
chased with the busts of Christ and the Virgin are
placed in the upper corners. The ground is chased with
lozenge-shaped medalhons of trefoils and traiUng
stems.
The 19th-century silvergilt framework includes
scenes from the saint's life worked in repousse. Accord-
ing to the inscribed plaque at the bottom side of the
frame, the icon was fashioned by order of Tsar Vasily
Shuisky in 1608.

На лицевой стороне золотого четырехконечно-
го с оглавием, жемчужной обнизью и драгоценны-
ми камнями креста — накладное литое Распятие,
по сторонам — четыре камня в гладких восьмиг-
ранных кастах. На оборотной стороне на гладком
фоне — черневые надписи о мощах. Оглавие чекан-
ное, с крупным изумрудом и четырьмя жемчужина-
ми на спнях. На оборотной стороне оглавия —
черневая надпись о благословении царя Михаила
Романова патриархом Филаретом Никитичем.

The ornament of the reliquary pectoral cross in
solid gold with rounded ends includes pearls and pre-
cious stones. The front presents the figure of crucified
Christ in castwork, the shaft and arms are set with four
large jewels in octahedral settings. The nielloed inscrip-
tion on the reverse describes the relics deposited inside.
The edges of the cross are outlined by a series of large
pearls. The chased trefoil head-piece is decorated with
a large emerald in a square setting and four affixed
pearls; its reverse is inscribed in niello.

тельным узором по канфаренному фону и крупны-
ми драгоценными камнями в фигурных чеканных
кастах с эмалью.
В венцах в гладких кастах размещены изумруды
и рубины.
Икона вложена в серебряный золоченый киот.
Публикуется впервые.

The gold framework of the icon is nielloed with
formalized foUate motifs against pounced surface, in-
terspersed with large precious stones of varying size
and form, fixed in chased festooned settings with en-
amel decoration. The haloes are inlaid with small em-
eralds and rubies.

Золотая круглая дробница с чеканным изобра-
жением композиции «Спас на престоле». Одежда
сидящего на троне Христа украшена прозрачной
синей эмалью, золотыми звездочками и расписной
эмалью розового цвета. Слева от Христа — фигура
Богоматери в рост, со свитком в левой руке,
в одеждах с прозрачной зеленой и глухой эмалью
вишневого цвета по чеканному рельефу. Справа
— чеканная фигура Иоанна Предтечи, склонивше-
гося к трону, в одеждах с прозрачной зеленой эма-
лью. Вся композиция размещена на фоне расти-
