The student‟s book is designed for advanced students majoring in English. It aims to polish conversational and critical thinking skills through listening. One of its main goals is to provide the students with the opportunity for self-study (to work independently outside the class-room). The listening selections provide content that is educational, interesting and relevant to the textbook by V.D. Arakin Practical Course of English for the 4th and 5th year students. It exposes the non-native speaker to unedited language, including the hesitations, redundancies and various dialectical pattes that occur in everyday speech. The students gain an understanding of values and culture of Great Britain and USA as they develop their conversational skills.
The exercises are designed to stimulate an interest in the material by drawing on students‟ previous knowledge and opinions.
