Heitmann D. (Ed.) Quantum Materials, Lateral Semiconductor Nanostructures, Hybrid Systems and Nanocrystals
Springer, 2010. 434 p. ISBN:3642105521

Semiconductor nanostructures are ideal systems to tailor the physical properties via quantum effects, utilizing special growth techniques, self-assembling, wet chemical processes or lithographic tools in combination with tuneable exteal electric and magnetic fields. Such systems are called "Quantum Materials".The electronic, photonic, and phononic properties of these systems are goveed by size quantization and discrete energy levels. The charging is controlled by the Coulomb blockade. The spin can be manipulated by the geometrical structure, exteal gates and by integrating hybrid ferromagnetic emitters. This book reviews sophisticated preparation methods for quantum materials based on III-V and II-VI semiconductors and a wide variety of experimental techniques for the investigation of these interesting systems. It highlights selected experiments and theoretical concepts and gives such a state-of-the-art overview about the wide field of physics and chemistry that can be studied in these systems.

CRC Press, 2000. - 435 pp. This text explains the features of quantum and statistical field systems that result from their field-theoretic nature and are common to different physical contexts. It supplies the practical tools for carrying out calculations and discusses the meaning of the results. The central concept is that of effective action (or free energy), and the main technical tool is the path integral, although other formalisms are also m...

(WSP, 2004)(T) This book is conceived as an advanced textbook - suitable for graduate students, interested non-experts, and even ambitious undergraduates - to provide a broad introduction to the subject of exactly solved quantum many-body systems. These systems are necessarily one-dimensional, but should that change in the future, I will happily include higher-dimensional examples in a new edition of this book! As the subtitle indicates, the topi...
