Dorofeev S., Grant P. Statistics for Real-Life Sample Surveys: Non-Simple-Random Samples and Weighted Data
Cambridge University Press, 2006. - 276 pages.

Samples used in social and commercial surveys, especially of the general population, are usually less random (often by design) than many people using them realise. Unless it is understood, this 'non-randomness' can compromise the conclusions drawn from the data. This book introduces the challenges posed by less-than-perfect samples, giving background knowledge and practical guidance for those who have to deal with them. It explains why samples are, and sometimes should be, non-random in the first place; how to assess the degree of non-randomness; when correction by weighting is appropriate and how to apply it; and how the statistical treatment of these samples must be adapted. Extended data examples show the techniques at work. This is a book for practising researchers. It is a reference for the methods and formulae needed to deal with commonly encountered situations and, above all, a source of realistic and implementable solutions.

Duxbury Prеss, 1994. - 672 pages. This is the first text in a generation to re-examine the purpose of the mathematical statistics course. The book's approach interweaves traditional topics with data analysis and reflects the use of the computer with close ties to the practice of statistics. The author stresses analysis of data, examines real problems with real data, and motivates the theory. The book's descriptive statistics, graphical displays...

Third Edition, 2004 The third edition of this book continues to demonstrate how to apply probability theory to gain insight into real, everyday statistical problems and situations. As in the previous editions, carefully developed coverage of probability motivates probabilistic models of real phenomena and the statistical procedures that follow. This approach ultimately results in an intuitive understanding of statistical procedures and strategie...

Springer, 1999. - 453 pages. This textbook introduces the mathematical concepts and methods that underlie statistics. The course is unified, in the sense that no prior knowledge of probability theory is assumed; this is developed as needed. The book is committed to a high level of mathematical seriousness; and to an intimate connection with application. Modern methods, such as logistic regression, are introduced; as are unjustly neglected class...
