Temam R. Navier-Stokes Equations and Nonlinear Functional Analysis
Sоciety for Industriаl Mаthematics, 1987. - 155 pages.

This second edition, like the first, attempts to arrive as simply as possible at some central problems in the Navier-Stokes equations in the following areas: existence, uniqueness, and regularity of solutions in space dimensions two and three; large time behavior of solutions and attractors; and numerical analysis of the Navier-Stokes equations. Since publication of the first edition of these lectures in 1983, there has been extensive research in the area of inertial manifolds for Navier-Stokes equations. These developments are addressed in a new section devoted entirely to inertial manifolds.

Academic Press, 1991. - 496 Pages. In the developing area of nonlinear mathematics, there are a large number of classes of nonlinear equations which have received attention. This collection of 11 articles addresses a number of physically motivated systems for which considerable theory is available, such as reaction-diffusion systems and elasticity. Theories that are available for wider classes of equations include discussions of Lie symmetries,...

Springer, 2010. - 199 pages. Semilinear elliptic equations are of fundamental importance for the study of geometry, physics, mechanics, engineering and life sciences. The variational approach to these equations has experienced spectacular success in recent years, reaching a high level of complexity and refinement, with a multitude of applications. Additionally, some of the simplest variational methods are evolving as classical tools in the field...

American Mathematical Society, 1998. - 662 pages. This text gives a comprehensive survey of modern techniques in the theoretical study of partial differential equations (PDEs) with particular emphasis on nonlinear equations. The exposition is divided into three parts: 1) representation formulas for solutions, 2) theory for linear partial differential equations, and 3) theory for nonlinear partial differential equations. Included are complete tr...

Springer, 2011. - 1032 pages. The book provides a comprehensive, detailed and self-contained treatment of the fundamental mathematical properties of boundary-value problems related to the Navier-Stokes equations. These properties include existence, uniqueness and regularity of solutions in bounded as well as unbounded domains. Whenever the domain is unbounded, the asymptotic behavior of solutions is also investigated. This book is the new editi...

CRC, 2009. - 304 pages. Exploring iterative operator-splitting methods, this work describes the analysis of numerical methods for evolution equations based on temporal and spatial decomposition methods. It generalizes the numerical analysis with respect to the consistency and stability to nonlinear, stiff, and spatial decomposed splitting problems. The book focuses on parabolic and hyperbolic equations, including convection-diffusion-reaction, h...

Academic Press, 1989. - 481 Pages. This book provides an introduction to the vast subject of initial and initial-boundary value problems for PDEs, with an emphasis on applications to parabolic and hyperbolic systems. The Navier-Stokes equations for compressible and incompressible flows are taken as an example to illustrate the results. Researchers and graduate students in applied mathematics and engineering will find Initial-Boundary Value Prob...

World Scientific Pub Co Inc, 2009. - 544 Pages This book presents the theory of diffusion-reaction equations starting from the Volterra-Lotka systems developed in the eighties for Dirichlet boundary conditions. It uses the analysis of applicable systems of partial differential equations as a starting point for studying upper-lower solutions, bifurcation, degree theory and other nonlinear methods. It also illustrates the use of semigroup, stabilit...

American Mathematical Society, 1986. - 100 Pages. The book provides an introduction to minimax methods in critical point theory and shows their use in existence questions for nonlinear differential equations. An expanded version of the author's 1984 CBMS lectures, this volume is the first monograph devoted solely to these topics. Among the abstract questions considered are the following: the mountain pass and saddle point theorems, multiple crit...

Academic Press, 1980. - 400 pages. This book is the first of a multi-volume series devoted to an exposition of functional analysis methods in modern mathematical physics. It describes the fundamental principles of functional analysis and is essentially self-contained, although there are occasional references to later volumes. We have included a few applications when we thought that they would provide motivation for the reader. Later volumes des...
